The Blue Disc Project began with a simple idea: turn something small into something meaningful. Parents of children born with cleft lip and palate know how vital specialized feeding tools are - but they’re often hard to find or afford.
We collect new and gently used Dr. Brown’s® blue discs (officially called the Infant-Paced Feeding Valve) and related feeding accessories, then carefully clean, package, and send them to families who need them - no cost required. Every “disc” represents care, connection, and hope.
1. Collect:
We receive donations of unused or gently used blue discs, bottles, and feeding supplies from caring families, hospitals, and communities.
2. Clean & Sort:
Every item is inspected and sanitized following strict safety protocols.
3. Distribute:
We send supplies directly to families, clinics, and cleft-care programs locally and abroad.
4. Repeat the Ripple:
Each disc creates a ripple of kindness-helping another baby eat, grow, and thrive.

We’re Matt and Allison Landstrom, and this project was inspired by our son, Gabriel. When Gabriel was born with a cleft condition, we quickly learned how something as small as a feeding valve could make all the difference in the world. Those little blue discs inside Dr. Brown’s® bottles - the ones most people barely notice - became our lifeline during some of the hardest days of early parenthood.
We also learned how easy they are to lose - slipping down the sink or disappearing in the middle of the night when you’re trying to wash bottles half asleep. And when we went to replace them, we found out Dr. Brown’s doesn’t sell the discs separately - you can only get them as part of full bottle sets.
Through cleft support groups, we saw families posting in desperation for replacements, and others offering up their extras to help. It struck us that if these tiny blue discs are so coveted and hard to find here in the U.S., they must be even more valuable for lower-income families and those overseas who don’t have easy access to these specialty supplies.
That’s what inspired The Blue Disc Project — a simple way to connect those who have with those who need. We collect new and gently used Dr. Brown’s® blue discs and other specialty feeding parts, carefully clean and package them, and make them available to families around the world - free of charge.
Our mission is personal, but it’s also universal: to turn small acts of compassion into something that feeds hope.
From our family to yours — thank you for being part of this story, and for helping make the world a little kinder, one blue disc at a time.
